Summary: The present day industrial environment demands increased production, high efficiency, control of costs, quality control, etc. The production processes has become complex and the capital intensive. Outages in plants can hardly be tolerated. To meet such needs of industries the subject of Safety, Health and Environment has attained significant importance. Any neglect in this aspect can be very costly. The engineers are therefore expected to have first hand knowledge of this subject. Keeping this requirement in view an attempt has been made to present detailed information about safety, health and environment in this book. It is hoped that this boo will be helpful for the engineers practising these areas in the industry and will find its place i curriculum of universities and it will serve as a reference to the policy makers in field. While writing this book lots of literature were consulted and the practices being adopted by leading industries in the country, viz. Indian Oil, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., Tatas, Reliance, NTPC, Siemens, etc. The assistance taken from their literatures, without which this book would not have been meaningful, is gratefully acknowledged. In particular, I would like to acknowledge with thanks the assistance taken from various articles of the journals of OHS Tide published by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), Tiruchirapalli Unit : also I am grateful to all the work of other authors which have been consulted, which writing this book. It is hoped that readers will find this compilation useful and will feel free to give suggestions for improvement in subsequent edition. Sincere thanks are due to Bureau of Indian Standards, Ministry of Environment and Forest and other institutes whose printed matter has been referred into.
